What does Shooting offer
The information listed here is intended to help Leaders who would like to arrange Shooting for their section. It also has information for Leaders/Adults who would like to get involved with this activity.
Based at Drum Hill Campsite, the Shooting team is staffed by volunteers from around the county. All our instructors are suitably qualified in accordance with POR. Regardless of the time of year, we normally shoot inside Spike's Activity building.
Shooting can be provided for all Scouting sections. See full list of sections and any restrictions for this activity, at the end of this page. We use Pre-charge Pneumatics (PCP) rifles and shoot from 10m. Stands are available for young people who may not be able to hold the weight of the rifle. Shooting is a fully inclusive activity and it can be enjoyed by everyone. It is very helpful for the instructors to know in advance, if a group has any additional needs. This really helps the instructors and ensures they are better prepared to deliver your activity session.
Each session contains the following elements:
• safety briefing
• demonstration on how to shoot
• throughout the session, coaching and advice will be offered to improve participants enjoyment

We don’t recommend that Beavers take part in this activity, since the rifles are quite heavy and difficult to aim for this age group. If you wish to try, the following limitations must be applied. The shooting range at Drum Hill has eight lanes. The colony must provide either an adult or young leader for each lane used. In addition, the colony must provide enough leaders to control the beaver who are not shooting. Suggested group size should not be less than 8 or exceed 16 beavers and the session should not last more than one hour, unless agreed beforehand. | ||
